A Good Day for Sun Microsystems

6 05 2008

VirtualBox 1.6 was released a few days ago. It’s changelog indicates some good news for OS X users: their system is now supported as a host. Support for Solaris was also added, as well as compatibility fixes for the 2.6.25 Linux kernel. There are many other additions to the vitualization software, none of which I understood ;) Again, see the changelog for details.

Also, out today, is OpenSolaris, with a wicked cool website! The way it looks (read: the way the other bloggers are saying it looks), this build is a very good clone of Ubuntu’s design, with some uber geeky (but very good) features. Take a look at their Getting Started page if you’re interested.

Note to the OpenSolaris developers: get the guy who designed the website to write the Getting Started guide. It wouldn’t be as intimidating as it looks now. As it is, it’s WAY too geeky to be cohesive; it should be like the Linux Mint user guide is.
